Christmas Children 2009
Monaco's biggest and best charity bazaar took place on Saturday 5th December 2009 under the Big Tent (Chapiteau - Éspace Fontvielle). The ANNUAL ECUMENICAL KERMESSE celebrated its 40th anniversary this year and was the fruit of much planning and organisation under the leadership of Jane "Widgi" D'Amico, President, and her capable team of hard working volunteers. Indeed, more than 100 volunteers from several Monaco Christian communities (churches and charities) prepare and staff the annual charity Kermesse and their efforts bear the fruit of approximately 90,000 € raised for charity annually. Tibetan Buddhists visit Saint Paul's
A group of 5 Tibetan Buddhist monks visited the Principality over the weekend (27-29 November) to offer a series of workshops on Buddhist philosophy and teaching. Geshe Lobsang Jamphel (pictured above, right) lead the workshops and simultaneous translation was offered from Tibetan into English and French. Saturday's workshop, which took place at the Fusion Restaurant (above Stars'n'Bars), focused on the mental discipline required for spiritual and moral living, and Sunday's late afternoon workshop at Saint Paul's Library was open for Questions & Answers on anything to do with Buddhist traditions -- the Sunday workshop lasted for 4 hours!
The monks joined the congregation gathered for Sunday Worship at Saint Paul's (10:30 Service) and offered a blessing with chants and mantras for the community here, and they received the Choral Blessing, sung by the Saint Paul's Choir, in return. This was easily the high-point of their time in Monaco, and the congregation and the Buddhist visitors rejoiced in our shared humanity and devotion to the life of faith.
Choral Reunion at Saint Paul's
The Saint Paul's Church Choir was delighted to welcome Clive and Nicole D'Eath on Christ the King Sunday (22nd November). Clive D'Eath served for many years as the director of the Saint Paul's Church Choir before leaving Monaco to settle in Central France a couple of years ago. Pictured here, left to right, Dani Carew, Gottfried Kappen (our current organist and choir master), Nicole D'Eath, Derek Fletcher, Pauline O'Neil, Clive D'Eath, Patricia Ceronne, Sheila and Ian McNab and, the choir's newest member, Ruth Knight.

Remembrance Sunday at St. Paul's
A congregation of more than 100 attended the annual Remembrance Sunday Service on 8th November. The service began with a procession to the Winston Churchill Monument down the street from the church where Commander Michael Healy (pictured left) provided a reflection on the significance of the day. The President of the British Association of Monaco, Mrs Chrissie Courtney, wearing her father's service medals, placed a memorial wreath before the monument. The congregation then returned to Saint Paul's for the annual service of Remembrance.

Monopoly Tournament Success
Our Synod Delegate, Dani Carew was very pleased with the results of this year's Monopoly Tournament which she organises each year in early November to raise money for charity. This year's tournament took place on Saturday, 7th November and all earnings are for the Bishop's Advent Appeal in support of ChildAid projects in Belarus, Moldova and the Ukraine.
The competition was intense, as one might conclude from the above photo, with Paul Earle & Anne Fafoutakis taking 1st and 2nd place, respectively, in the adult tournament, and Cameron Swales sweeping away the opposition in the children's faceoff.
Sunday Reception at Saint Paul's
Ruth Knight (front right above) invited the entire congregation to a special birthday reception she organised on Sunday 18th October, not only to mark a significant milestone in her life but also to express her appreciation to the church community for the many gestures of support and friendship she has received since the death of her husband Bill Knight last February.
This special reception also afforded the community an opportunity to bid a fond farewell to the Smith Family: Rhona, Ella and James (centre above) who were joined by Rhona's parents Moreg and Bill visiting from Scotland. The Smiths are moving to Perth where they have lived before and have a home. They've played a very encouraging role in our community and they will be certainly missed.
Ruth Knight and the Smiths express their appreciation to everyone in the community who participated in the recption and helped make it such a special event.
Birthday Girl !
Ayoe Karonias (above left) also celebrated her birthday last week at a special lunch hosted by Jane Roffe. Ayoe shares her birthdate (14th October) with none other than the famous Sir Roger Moore who also enjoyed his own birthday lunch at an adjoining table to Ayoe's at the Café de Paris.

Clergy attend Rare Conference
145 clergy -- including our
own Father Walter -- representing churches from Morocco to Finland and
Tenerife to Moscow attended a rare conference for the clergy of the
Diocese in Europe, at the end of September in Cologne. It was only the
second time that all licensed priests and deacons have been able to meet
in the diocese's 29 year history.
The theme was "Entertaining Angels: Hospitality as Mission." and included worship, bible study, teaching, and continuing education workshops to equip clergy further for their work of ministry and mission in Europe. Each Church's annual financial contribution for Continuing Ministerial Education made this gathering possible. The first time clergy were enabled to share in such a conference was four years ago and many ministers still recall the benefit and positive effects of that gather
